Solar Well Pump To Fight Water Shortage

Carinthian Inventor Awarded – Well Drill Master Inspired By Journey to Africa:

An inventor from Klagenfurt wants to fight the water shortage in developing countries with the power of the sun! 27-year-old Dietmar Stuck developed a solar well pump which uses electricity from photovoltaics in order to pump water out of more than 150 metres’ depths. The first projects are in progress in Tanzania and Dubai.

Stuck spent two years in Australia, and he was also confronted with the grave water shortage and the suffering that accompanies it on his travels for the aid organization „Life needs Water". In order to fight the water shortage, the inventor turned part of the problem into a solution and developed a “solar pump“. “In Africa, I saw 50 people around a well, waiting for ages for water. The water well was operated with a windmill. And then the idea to use the sun came to my mind “, the inventor remembers. The idea is this: Photovoltaic modules drive an engine which can pump water out of more than 150 metres‘ depth to the surface. The system runs self-sufficiently and is also resistant to salt water. A station which was set up in June 2010 in St. Veit an der Glan shows remarkable results.

Last Wednesday the entrepreneur was praised at a creative competition presentation conducted by the start-up centre „build! Gründerzentrum“. For more details about the solar pump, see: www.newsolarpump.com
